Spanish I
Spanish II - Students take this course to improve their skills of speaking, reading, listening and writing in the Spanish language.
Spanish III - This course offers the student an opportunity to master the Spanish language at an accelerated pace. Emphasis is placed on the four major skills of language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing and the grammar and vocabulary necessary to acquire these skills. In addition, the student will complete independent work including supplementary readings, compositions and vocabulary expansion. Spontaneous conversational activities are an integral part of this course. This course culminates in the LOTE exam - required for those seeking an Advanced Regents Diploma (please only choose this option if you have already taken and passed Spanish II).
AP Spanish Language - In this course, you will develop your Spanish language skills and learn about the cultures in Spanish-speaking parts of the world. You’ll practice communicating in Spanish and study real-life materials such as newspaper articles, films, music, and books. Skills you will learn include: (1) Understanding Spanish when you hear it and read it; (2) Holding conversations in real-life situations; (3) Writing stories, letters, emails, essays, and other texts. This course culminates with the AP® Spanish Language Exam and a potential college credit.
AP Spanish Literature - In this course, you will build your language skills and cultural knowledge by exploring works of literature written in Spanish. Using Spanish to communicate, you’ll read, analyze, discuss, and write about works by Spanish, Latin-American, and U.S. Hispanic authors of different periods. Skills you will learn include: (1) Interpreting, analyzing, and comparing literary works; (2) Relating literary works to their cultural and historical contexts; (3) Comparing literary works to works of art; (4) Writing a literary analysis using correct literary terms; (5) Discussing works of literature. This course culminates with the AP® Spanish Literature Exam and a potential college credit.
