TRIAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM MOCK TRIALS

Students invited to participate as mock jurors in the New York County District Attorney’s Office 2024 Trial Advocacy Program Mock Trials on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

For over 45 years, the Office has conducted a Trial Advocacy Program designed to teach litigation skills to new prosecutors. The week-long program culminates in mock jury trials that takes place in real courtrooms at 100 Centre Street.

 

In the past, we have been fortunate to have the participation of a wide cross-section of students from our community. Your students will be able to watch first-hand how jury trials are conducted within our criminal justice system. It has always been an invaluable experience for them. If you are interested in giving academic credit for participation to your students, I would be delighted to assist you. Breakfast and lunch will be served to them.

NEW CHALLENGE! KNOPRO GAMING FOR ALL CHALLENGE

Esports is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, but not everyone fully participates—yet. This Challenge invites you to reimagine esports. From controllers that fit every player’s needs to tournaments that encourage all students to participate, you’ll design a concept that makes esports and gaming more available to all players. Take on the role of an innovator and pitch your big idea to change the game—literally! Impress the Lenovo judges and win big $$$! In this Challenge, you'll explore the question:

 

How can we break down barriers in esports and gaming to open them up to more players?

This challenge runs from March 10 - April 20, 2025.

Simulating the dynamics of an in-person career fair, JA Inspire features an interactive career expo that is open to students from March through June 2025. Highlights include:

NEW YORK HISTORICAL SOCIETY SUMMER HISTORIAN INTERNSHIP

Deadline: March 30, 2025

 

Who: Students in grades 10-12 who live and reside in the New York Metro area.

 

What: Student Historians are high school-aged interns who use the resources of The New York Historical to conduct in-depth research and share their scholarship through the production of creative digital projects that serve as public educational resources. Interns meet with professional staff to learn about the museum, library, digital humanities, and history fields; and work collaboratively with fellow students to develop their historical thinking, communication, and digital media skills. The program involves substantial research and writing, allowing interns to deepen their understanding of American history and the digital humanities through academically rigorous, hands-on work. The historical theme of the internship is Our Composite Nation: Frederick Douglass’ America.

 

When: July 8, 2025 – August 14, 2025, meeting every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10

am – 4 pm

 

Where: New York Historical Society

 

Compensation: $700 stipend

TECH SCHOLARS - WEB DESIGN AT THE NY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Deadline: March 21, 2025

Industry: IT/History

 

Who: 10th, 11th, 12th grade students.

What: Where are all the women in history textbooks? Explore important contributions by underrepresented women in history, then code and create a website to amplify a woman’s story as you learn HTML and CSS.

FUTURES AND OPTIONS SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR HS JUNIORS AND SENIORS

SUMMER PAID INTERNSHIP

Futures and Options (FAO) provides paid, mentored internships and career readiness workshops to high school juniors and seniors. Students acquire meaningful hands-on work experience, gain entry to small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and multinational corporations, while making connections and creating networks that can last a lifetime.

 

 

OVERVIEW

Students: NYC high school juniors and seniors.

Time: 20 to 35 hours per week. Most internships are 100 to 150 hours in total.

Career Development: In-person, hybrid, and remote paid options with work readiness training and career exploration.

• Interns are required to attend weekly workshops at the FAO office to develop and fine tune career readiness skills
